The new version of Activision’s Call of Duty shooting game hit the $1 billion mark in sales on day one, according to the company. Named Ghosts, the title was released in 15,000 stores around the world, early Tuesday morning.
The Call of Duty: Ghosts brand surpassed that hit by the GTA V game, released by Take-Two Interactive in late September. The game had $800 million in sale on the first day. On the third day of sales, the game reached US $ 1 billion.
Ghosts also hit an earlier record set by another Call of Duty title: Black Ops II, released last year, had $ 500 million in sales the first day and $ 1 billion in 15 weeks.
The result of the game is a boost for Activision, which is part of Activision Blizzard, a game producer that has just separated from the French Vivendi, in a transaction of 6 billion euros.
