Researchers at Northwestern University conducted a study that found that people wearing a lab coat became more attentive and performed their tasks more accurately. However, clothing must be associated with medical professionals or scientists.
During the tests, the scientists asked a group of volunteers to wear white coats, just as doctors did, and then measured the participants’ ability to concentrate. Those in uniform doubled their assignments.
But worth a warning. The research also found that when volunteers were told that the coat was associated with a plastic artist, there was no increase in the number of hits. According to Hajo Adam and Adam Galisnky, authors of the study, the study indicates that the garment used has a direct influence on the physical experience of the work.
